Interests

My work focuses on population ecology and wildlife conservation in arid environments. I have conducted research on the reproductive biology and habitat of the Aplomado Falcon (Falco femoralis septentrionalis); abundance, survival and habitat selection in grassland birds in the Chihuahuan Desert; population genetics and migratory behavior in the Western Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia hypugaea), nesting phenology of passerines in the Sonoran Desert; occupancy of Yellow-billed Cuckoos (Coccyzus americanus) in riparian areas of Sonora; winter diet of Montezuma Quail (Cyrtonyx montezumae) in Arizona and New Mexico; natal dispersal in Golden Eagles (Aquila chrysaetos). I am interested in using population parameters and life history characteristics in birds as early indicators of climate change in North American deserts using modern quantitative methods.
